A camera records the traffic stream at a location for the survey duration; AI-based video analytics then extracts vehicle counts, classifications, and movement patterns from that footage automatically.
This approach offers real advantages over live manual counting: the underlying footage can be reprocessed if questions arise later, the counting methodology is applied consistently across the entire dataset rather than varying by which counter was on shift, and survey duration can extend well beyond what’s practical to staff with human counters.
